5. Step-by-Step Installation Guide
Standard method (INF driver – most common)
- Download the
SetupChipset.exeorIntel_ Chipset_10.1.xxxxx.zip - Close all applications (especially browsers with USB devices attached)
- Right-click installer → Run as Administrator
- Accept the license → Next
- Read the release notes (look for "This package installs INF drivers for:")
- Click Install – the process takes 20–60 seconds
- Do NOT interrupt – power loss during INF install can require a System Restore
- Restart – required even if not prompted
- Clean Windows install shows "PCI Device" or "SM Bus Controller" with yellow exclamation marks
- USB ports randomly disconnect/reconnect
- Sleep/resume fails or crashes
- Your motherboard is new (first 6 months after launch)
