Resident Evil 3 : The Return of DirectX 11 Capcom has officially listened to the community. After the recent "next-gen" update for Resident Evil 3

Tip: On PC, force DX11 via Steam launch options (-force-d3d11) for smoother performance than DX12.

Fewer Visual Bugs: Players report that DX12 can introduce "pixel-y" noisy reflections and texture flickering (e.g., hair artifacts), which are absent in the more refined DX11 renderer.

Performance Stability: DirectX 11 remains the gold standard for stability on mid-range and older cards. Expect fewer crashes and more consistent frame times compared to the heavier DX12 implementation.

1. New Driver-Level Optimizations

Both NVIDIA and AMD have released Game Ready drivers in the past 12 months that specifically re-tune RE Engine games running under DX11. Users report that forcing Resident Evil 3 to run in DX11 mode now yields 15-20% higher minimum framerates on cards like the RTX 3060 and RX 6600 compared to launch-day performance.

What Does "New" Mean for Resident Evil 3 DirectX 11?

The term "new" in this context is multifaceted. It refers to several recent developments as of 2025-2026:

  • You experience stuttering in the downtown Raccoon City area.
  • You have a graphics card with 8GB VRAM or less.
  • You use mods (especially script-heavy ones).
  • You want the most consistent 60+ FPS experience on a Steam Deck or ROG Ally.

Who Should Use DX12?

  • You have a high-end GPU (RTX 3080/4070+ with 10GB+ VRAM). These cards brute-force through shader compilation.
  • You use Ray Tracing. Crucially, RE3’s ray tracing (added in a 2022 next-gen update) is only available in DX12. If you want reflections and shadows that physically behave, you must use DX12 and accept the occasional stutter.
  • You play at 4K with DLSS/FSR. These upscaling technologies are tied to DX12’s feature set.

I love how you say you are right in the title itself. Clearly nobody agrees with you. The episode was so great it was nominated for an Emmy. Nothing tops the chain mail curse episode? Really? Funny but not even close to the highlight of the series.

Dissent is dissent. I liked the chain mail curse. Also the last two episodes of the season were great.

Honestly i fully agree. That episode didn’t seem like the rest of the series, the humour was closer to other sitcoms (friends, how i met your mother) with its writing style and subplots. The show has irreverent and stupid humour, but doesn’t feel forced. Every ‘joke’ in the episode just appealed to the usual late night sitcom audience and was predictable (oh his toothpick is an effortless disguise, oh the teams money catches fire, oh he finds out the talking bass is worthless, etc). I didn’t have a laugh all episode save the “one human alcoholic drink please” thing which they stretched out. Didn’t feel like i was watching the same show at all and was glad when they didn’t return to this forced humour. Might also be because the funniest characters with best delivery (Nandor and Guillermo) weren’t in it

And yet…that is the episode that got the Emmy nomination! What am I missing? I felt like I was watching a bad improv show where everyone was laughing at their friends but I wasn’t in on the joke.
