• Hardware SC-55: Most authentic, including original effects and dynamic quirks; requires the physical unit and proper MIDI setup.
• SoundFont recreation: Portable and fast; can be used on modern systems and is ideal for archival MIDI playback or retro production. Quality depends on sample source and mapping accuracy.
• Software emulators (e.g., dedicated Roland emulations): Can reproduce processing/FX closer to hardware; some modern emulations model behavior like voice stealing, filter responses, and effect algorithms.

• Solution: The original SC-55 had a hot output. Reduce the gain in your soundfont player by -3dB to -6dB. Use a limiter only as a last resort.
