The game picks up after "The Great Mistake," a cataclysmic event on Earth that forced humanity to seek a future among the stars. You lead one of several international factions landing on an alien world, but unlike traditional Civ games, you aren't just competing against other nations—you are contending with a living, breathing, and often hostile alien ecosystem. Black Market Selling: Agents can now be assigned to sell unwanted strategic resources via the Black Market in Covert Ops. Core Expansion Features: Rising Tide Ships don’t hide behind forests or hills
The battle was ugly. The new naval combat in Rising Tide isn’t like land. Ships don’t hide behind forests or hills. It’s line of sight and sonar pings. I lost two harvesters before I realized my Al Falah unique unit—the Dhow-class Raider—could pillage underwater resources. I sent them deep, beneath the NSA’s floating city, and cut their geothermal vents.
Rising Tide also expanded the Affinity system. In the base game, you were largely pigeonholed into one path: Purity, Supremacy, or Harmony. The expansion, particularly in later patches, rewards hybrid approaches. Want to be a cybernetically enhanced society that lives in harmony with the local flora? You can do that. This flexibility allows for deeper customization of your military units and cultural identity.
