Patched | Sohne Font Vk
Söhne is a high-profile sans-serif typeface designed by Kris Sowersby and released by the New Zealand-based Klim Type Foundry in 2019.
- The “Closed” Aperture: Unlike the wide, friendly apertures of Futura or Gill Sans, Söhne closes its counters slightly (look at the ‘a’ and ‘c’). This gives it a dense, mature texture.
- The True Italic: Most grotesks use a sloped roman (an oblique). Söhne features a true italic with cursive influences (notice the ‘a’ and ‘f’). This adds a surprising warmth to an otherwise neutral face.
- The Unassuming “G”: Helvetica’s lowercase ‘g’ is a two-story mess; Söhne’s is a clean, single-story ‘g’ that doesn’t distract.
When to use
- Use for: clean modern UI, body text at medium sizes, headers with clear hierarchy, brand systems needing a neutral sans.
- Avoid for: ornate display needs, very small captions in low-res contexts (choose more open x‑height or hinting).
As a VK download: If you are a student or experimenting for a personal portfolio, the VK files are a tempting gateway. Just be aware of the legal and malware risks. If you are a professional charging clients, buy the license. A $500 font for a $5,000 logo is a reasonable expense. sohne font vk
